Beginning Monday, February 11, 2019, BART service will change to start at 5 a.m. (from the current 4 a.m. start) to accommodate the Transbay tube seismic retrofit project. Transit agencies will provide alternative express and Transbay bus service on weekdays from 4 a.m. to 5 a.m. This service change is expected to last about 3-1/2 years.

The far-left toll lane is usually closed to all traffic until 5 a.m., but for the duration of the early-morning BART closure, express buses approaching the bridge from Interstate 580 will use this lane starting at 4 a.m. Between 4 a.m. and 5 a.m., the lane will not be open to any vehicles - including carpoolers, vanpools, motorcycles and clean-air vehicles. Drivers will be subject to citation if they use the lane during this period. Starting at 5 a.m., the lane will open to high-occupancy vehicles as usual.
