Tolls on the Golden Gate Bridge
Tolls are collected in the southbound (inbound to San Francisco) direction only. For the location
of FasTrak®-only lanes on this bridge, click here.
Current Per Axle Toll Rates
Two-axle vehicles paying with FasTrak® = $4.
Two-axle vehicles paying with cash = $5.
Two axles plus, paying with cash or FasTrak® = $2.50 per axle.
Buses, Carpools (THREE or more) and Motorcycles receive free toll crossing on weekdays (except holidays) 5 a.m. to 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Vehicles with dual tires are NOT eligible as carpools.
To receive free toll passage during these hours you must stop in a staffed toll lane. If you are a FasTrak® customer and use the "FasTrak® Only" toll lanes on the left side of the toll plaza, you will be charged a toll. To avoid being charged a toll, do not use a “FasTrak® Only” toll lane and instead stop in a staffed toll lane, and if you forgot to leave your toll tag at home or put in the mylar bag, ask the toll collector to void the FasTrak® toll charge.
The Golden Gate Bridge does not have a dedicated carpool toll or roadway lanes. The Golden Gate Bridge carpool policy requires three or more people for two key reasons: to enhance traffic congestion and to remain within the budgetary requirements of GGBHTD.
Clean Air Vehicles
Clean Air Vehicles registered by California Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) as a Clean Air Vehicles and displaying the official DMV decal (shown below) are allowed toll free passage only during carpool hours.
At the Golden Gate Bridge, vehicles with the DMV Clean Air Vehicle decal must pass through a staffed toll lane, the driver must stop and show the toll collector their visible decal. If the vehicle is a FasTrak® participant, they must either "bag the toll tag", leave the toll tag at home, or request the toll collector to void the toll charge. For official information about qualifying vehicles and DMV registration, call 800-242-4450.

Hybrid Vehicles
With the passage of the Federal Transportation bill on August 10, 2005 and Assembly Bill 2628 on September 23, 2004, qualifying hybrid vehicles are now allowed access to high occupancy vehicle (HOV) lanes (carpool lanes) even when occupied by a single person. The legislation does not provide, however, for any reduction in tolls.
A single-occupant hybrid vehicle must still pay the toll, since it does not qualify as a carpool vehicle on the Golden Gate Bridge. Tolls can be paid by using FasTrak™ or cash. To qualify for toll-free passage as a carpool, the standard carpool rules (see above) apply.
