Note: The YELLOW Clean Air Stickers Issued to Hybrid Vehicles Expired on June 30, 2011.
If you own a hybrid vehicle displaying the YELLOW Clean Air stickers, you are no longer able to drive in a High Occupancy Vehicle (HOV) or carpool lane after June 30, 2011 unless you meet the minimum passenger requirements for carpools. Hybrid drivers using an HOV lane, without the required number of passengers, may be cited by law enforcement.
However, the WHITE Clean Air Vehicle Stickers are still available to an unlimited number of qualifying Federal Inherently Low Emission Vehicles (ILEVs). Cars that meet these requirements are typically certified pure zero emission vehicles (PZEV) (100% battery electric and hydrogen fuel cell) and compressed natural gas (CNG) vehicles. The expiration date for the WHITE stickers has been extended to January 1, 2015. For more information and a complete list of qualifying clean air vehicles, go to: http://www.arb.ca.gov/msprog/carpool/carpool.htm#FAQ.
