FAQs

General

  • What is FasTrak?
FasTrak is an electronic toll collection (ETC) system that allows you to prepay your tolls, eliminating the need to stop at the toll plaza. FasTrak will also allow solo drivers to pay to use the future Bay Area Express Lanes. The system has three components: a toll tag, which is placed inside your vehicle; an overhead antenna in the toll plaza, which reads the toll tag and automatically deducts the appropriate toll from your prepaid account; and video cameras to identify toll evaders.

Note: Specific vehicle models may require an externally-mounted toll tag (also referred to as an exterior toll tag). Call the Customer Service Center to determine if your vehicle may need an externally-mounted toll tag.
  • What exactly is a toll tag?
A toll tag is a small battery-powered device that transmits a radio signal to an antenna mounted above the toll lanes. Once attached to your windshield, the proper toll amount is deducted from your prepaid account.
  • How do I establish my prepaid FasTrak account?
The most convenient way to open a new FasTrak account is to pick up a toll tag from one of our retailers and then register it online. For select retail locations, click here.

You can also enroll online by mail/fax, phone, or in-person. For more information about the different enrollment methods, click here.
  • Is there a charge for the toll tag or for opening a FasTrak account?
There is no fee for the toll tag and no service charge to open and maintain a FasTrak account, but you must keep a minimum balance in your prepaid account. Your account can be automatically kept above this minimum by authorizing regular payments from your credit card.

To establish an account using a credit card, an initial prepaid balance of $25 per toll tag will be charged to your credit card. To establish an account with cash or check, an initial prepaid balance of $50 per toll tag is due at the time the account is opened, plus a $20 per toll tag deposit. The deposit is refunded to you when you close your account and return the toll tag in good condition.
  • What are the advantages of using FasTrak at the toll bridges?
    • You don't need to have cash on hand.
    • You don't have to stop at the toll booth, you only need to slow down.
    • Your commute is likely to be faster, since neither you nor any of the vehicles in front of you have to stop to pay the toll. A FasTrak-only lane can process about three to four times as many vehicles per hour as a lane in which tolls are collected manually.
    • On the Golden Gate Bridge, a discounted toll rate is offered to all FasTrak users, including those driving multi-axle vehicles.
  • Can I use FasTrak with my motorcycle?
Yes. Motorcycles can use FasTrak to pay tolls by mounting their toll tag in a secure location. We do not advise you to hold the toll tag up while driving through the toll lane as it may not be read accurately. Also, we are not responsible for any lost toll tags due to the toll tag not adhering to the motorcycle windshield.

It is recommended that you use one of the following methods to secure your toll tag:

    • Place toll tag in your front pocket, as it can be read through the material.
    • Place toll tag inside a cycle net (somewhere on top) that drapes over the gas tank.
  • Where can FasTrak toll tags be used?
FasTrak toll tags can be used on all eight Bay Area bridges and Bay Area express lanes:

    • Antioch Bridge
    • Benicia-Martinez Bridge
    • Carquinez Bridge
    • Dumbarton Bridge
    • Golden Gate Bridge
    • Richmond-San Rafael Bridge
    • San Francisco-Oakland Bay Bridge
    • San Mateo-Hayward Bridge
    • Alameda County Express Lanes
    • Silicon Valley Express Lanes
  • Will my FasTrak toll tag work on other California toll facilities?
Yes. FasTrak can also be used on several Southern California toll roads in Orange and Riverside Counties (91 Express Lanes, and the San Joaquin Hills, Foothill, and Eastern Toll Roads) and San Diego County (Interstate 15 and South Bay Expressway). It is your responsibility to know the toll rates and rules of each toll facility you use. State legislation ensures that all toll facilities in California have compatible FasTrak technology.

FasTrak customers should open their account with the toll facility of primary usage. Customers may be charged a service maintenance fee if it is determined that the majority of their toll activity occurs at another facility.
  • What are the toll rates on the toll bridges?
The toll schedule for all Bay Area bridges can be found at Where To Use It.
  • Can I use my FasTrak toll tag on all lanes of every Bay Area bridge or only certain ones?
Yes. All toll booths on all eight bridges in the Bay Area accept FasTrak.
  • Which Bay Area bridges have FasTrak-only lanes?
All of the seven state-owned bridges have at least one FasTrak-only lane in operation. The Golden Gate Bridge has up to four FasTrak-only lanes in operation at a time. For more information, go to Where To Use It.
  • When using the Golden Gate Bridge, will the toll be charged to my FasTrak account when traveling north through the toll lanes that are dedicated for northbound traffic?
No. The FasTrak system on the Golden Gate Bridge will be turned off when these toll lanes are dedicated to northbound traffic.
  • How do I open a Business Account for a commercial trucking company?
If you operate a business with commercial vehicles that cross any of the Bay Area's eight toll bridges, you can open a FasTrak Business Account that allows you to conveniently manage your company's toll transactions. For more information, click here.
  • Can I use FasTrak anonymously?
Yes. FasTrak is dedicated to preserving and protecting customers' privacy. Customers who wish to take advantage of the speed and convenience of FasTrak may do so with complete anonymity.

In order to open an anonymous FasTrak account, you must visit the FasTrak Customer Service Center in person. You can open your account with cash, money order, or cashier's check. A Representative will be able to open your account without requiring customer name, address or vehicle information. (If you try to open an account online, your name, address and vehicle information will be required.)

After you have opened your account, you are responsible for depositing prepaid tolls into your FasTrak account whenever the "Low Bal" or "Account Low" message appears on the Driver Feedback Display located at the toll booth.

You can replenish your account with cash, money order or cashier's check in person or by mail. Please do not send cash in the mail. Print your toll tag number or account number on the money order or cashier's check, and the amount will be added to your prepaid balance.

All account management for anonymous accounts must be conducted in person at the FasTrak Customer Service Center, including checking your account balance, ordering additional toll tags or closing your account.

FasTrak Account Holders - Using FasTrak

  • Do I own the FasTrak toll tag?
No. The toll tag is on loan to you by the FasTrak Customer Service Center. If your FasTrak account was established using a credit card, there is no deposit for the first three (3) toll tags, but for each toll tags over three, there is a $20 deposit. For cash/check accounts, there is a $20 deposit for each toll tag. All deposits are refunded when the account is closed and the toll tag is returned in good condition.
  • What do I do if my toll tag is not working?
If the message on the Driver Feedback Display at the toll booth is blank, or if the toll tag does not beep as you drive through the toll plaza or toll gantry, there may be a problem with your toll tag or with your account. If you notice these problems, contact the Customer Service Center.
  • What are my responsibilities as a FasTrak user?
Your responsibilities as a FasTrak user are:
    • Maintain a minimum account balance as described in the License Agreement
    • Mount the toll tag as described in the mounting instructions
    • Report a lost, stolen, or damaged toll tag
    • Keep your address, credit card information, and vehicle information (e.g., license plate number/s) on your FasTrak account updated
  • Can I switch my toll tag from vehicle to vehicle?
Yes. The toll tag mounted to your windshield can be moved from vehicle to vehicle as long as it is properly mounted at each location, as described in the mounting instructions. It is recommended that the vehicle information, including license plate number, make, and model for each vehicle, be on file with the Customer Service Center. However, to avoid potential problems, we recommend that you obtain toll tags for each vehicle.

The potential problems that can occur when sharing a toll tag between several vehicles include, losing the toll tag, forgetting the toll tag in the other vehicle, or wearing out the Velcro strips much sooner than normal. In addition, your statement will not distinguish which car you were in when crossing the bridge or using the Express Lanes, and for some customers, this is important for tracking their toll transactions. If you want to track your toll transactions by vehicle, you need to obtain separate toll tags for separate vehicles.

You can request additional toll tags by logging into your account online at My Account and clicking on "Vehicles & Toll Tags". You can also download and complete an Additional Toll Tag Request Form and send it to the Customer Service Center.
  • If I am in an eligible carpool vehicle and travel through a carpool lane with my toll tag, will I be charged on my FasTrak account?
    Golden Gate Bridge:
Yes. To be eligible to receive the discounted carpool toll rate of $4 at the Golden Gate Bridge, you must have a FasTrak account in good standing and travel through a designated carpool lane. Eligible carpool vehicles include: (1) 2-axle vehicles with 3 or more people; (2) motorcycles, including three-wheeled motorcycles; and (3) buses. Two-seat vehicles and vehicles with rear axle dual tires do not qualify as a carpool on the Golden Gate Bridge. Carpool hours are 5 am to 9 am and 4 pm to 6 pm, weekdays except on specific observed holidays: New Year's Day, Presidents' Day (third Monday in Feb.), Memorial Day (last Monday in May), Independence Day (July 4), Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day, and Christmas Day.

If a valid FasTrak tag is not present in a vehicle that meets the other carpool discount requirements, the discounted toll rate does not apply.

    All Other Bridges:
As of July 1, 2010, carpools are charged a discounted toll rate of $2.50. Carpools must use designated carpool lanes and pay the toll with FasTrak to qualify for the discounted toll rate. If you drive through a carpool toll lane without a FasTrak toll tag (even if you meet occupancy requirements for the carpool lane), a violation notice will be sent to the vehicle's registered owner. It is a violation of the toll evasion statutes under California Vehicle Code Section 23302 et seq. and Streets and Highways Code Section 30843 to fail to pay the established bridge toll.

    Bay Area Express Lanes:
Carpool vehicles with two or more people, motorcycles, transit buses, and solo drivers in eligible hybrids can use the Bay Area Express Lanes for free. If you are in a carpool vehicle and you have a FasTrak toll tag, you will need to remove it from your windshield and place it inside the Mylar bag that was provided to you by FasTrak, so that you are not charged for that particular trip. It is important to make sure that after your carpool trip, you properly re-install your toll tag onto your windshield.

  • How fast can I travel through the FasTrak lane on the toll bridges?
For most toll lanes dedicated to exclusive use by FasTrak users on all toll bridges in the Bay Area, the speed limit is 25 miles per hour and enforced by the California Highway Patrol. For toll lanes that are shared with FasTrak and cash paying motorists, FasTrak users should proceed with extreme caution, being alert for stopped vehicles and toll collectors. For Bay Area toll bridges with Open Road Tolling lanes (e.g., Benicia-Martinez Bridge), the posted speed limit is 55 miles per hour.
  • What happens when I drive through a toll plaza?
As you drive through a toll plaza, the Driver Feedback Display, located just past the collection booth window, will advise you of your account status as you hear your toll tag beep.

    • If your FasTrak account is valid and has a sufficient balance, it will display "VALID ETC" or "VALID FASTRAK". ("ETC" refers to electronic toll collection.)
    • If your FasTrak account has a low balance, it will display "LOW BAL" or "ACCOUNT LOW".
    • If your FasTrak account is invalid, for any reason, the display will be blank or it will display "CALL FASTRAK".
Note: There are no Driver Feedback Displays in the FasTrak lanes at the Benicia-Martinez Bridge, nor are there any in the Bay Area Express Lanes.
  • How is my FasTrak toll tag used for traffic information purposes?
The Metropolitan Transportation Commission/511 operates a data collection system based on FasTrak toll tags to provide better information about the transportation network to Bay Area travelers, transportation managers, and transportation planners through its 511 Driving TimesSM service. To ensure that FasTrak users remain anonymous, encryption software is used to scramble each FasTrak toll tag ID number before any other processing happens. In addition, the encrypted toll tag ID numbers are retained for no longer than 24 hours and are then discarded. If you do not want your toll tag read for these purposes, place the toll tag in the special Mylar bag provided to you when you are not using it for payment of tolls at a toll plaza. The Mylar bags can be requested from the Customer Service Center. If you would like additional information about 511 Driving TimesSM and how toll tag data is protected, please visit www.511.org/copyright_items/privacy.asp.

FasTrak Account Holders - Maintaining FasTrak Accounts

  • How can I track my FasTrak account activity?
The FasTrak system tracks your usage and account balance. A monthly or quarterly statement itemizing your toll payments and account balance will be sent to you through the mail or email. The frequency and delivery method of your statements is determined by you. You may also check your account balance by logging into your account online, or by calling the Customer Service Center.
  • How can I update the information on my FasTrak account?
You can update your account information (e.g., mailing address, day or evening phone numbers, vehicle information, etc.) by one of several ways:

    • Log into your account online at My Account and edit information as necessary.
    • Download an Account Update Form and mail/fax it to the Customer Service Center.
    • Contact the Customer Service Center by phone. When contacting the Customer Service Center, please provide your FasTrak account number or toll tag serial number in your communications. (The serial number is located on the toll tag's barcode.)
  • How is the prepaid balance in my account replenished?
Account replenishment is different depending on the type of replenishment method you chose at the time you opened your account.

For credit card accounts, automatic charges will be made to your credit card to replenish your FasTrak account whenever your prepaid toll balance falls below $15 or the minimum threshold.

For cash/check accounts, you are responsible for depositing prepaid tolls into your FasTrak account whenever the "Low Bal" or "Account Low" message appears on the Driver Feedback Display located at the toll booth. You must replenish your account whenever your prepaid toll balance falls below $30 or the minimum threshold.
  • How is the replenishment amount determined?
For credit card accounts, the amount charged to your credit card (i.e., your replenishment amount) will be equal to one month's average usage (based on the previous 90 days of use) or $25, whichever amount is greater. For cash/check accounts, the replenishment amount will be equal to one month's average usage (based on the previous 90 days of use) or $40, whichever amount is greater.
  • When is my replenishment threshold and replenishment amount adjusted?
Your FasTrak account's replenishment threshold and replenishment amount will be reviewed 35 days from the date your account is opened and every 90 days thereafter. It will be adjusted, if necessary, to reflect current use patterns. You will be notified on your statement whenever your replenishment amount has been adjusted (either increased or decreased). Replenishment amounts can vary and timing of replenishment is not always consistent. For this reason we do not recommend the use of ATM check/debit cards.
  • Is there a deposit required for my toll tag(s)?
A deposit may be required when you open your FasTrak account.

For FasTrak accounts replenished by credit card, a deposit will NOT be required for the first three (3) toll tags issued to your FasTrak account. If more than three toll tags are issued, you will be charged a deposit of $20 for each additional toll tag.

For FasTrak accounts replenished by cash/check, a refundable deposit of $20 is required for each toll tag.

Note: Should you close your account and return your toll tag in good working condition, the deposit will be refunded to you. Deposits will be forfeited for damaged, lost or stolen toll tags.
  • What happens if my FasTrak account has a negative balance?
An account with a negative balance is considered "invalid". Any transaction recorded on a negative account is a violation of the requirement to pay the established toll. Violations could result in your being liable for costly penalties and fees as specified in the California Vehicle Code Section 40250. Negative accounts will be closed after 90 days and toll tag deposits will be forfeited. To bring your account to a positive balance, you can make an immediate one-time payment online using a credit card. To do so, log into your account and then click on "Payment Info".
  • Will my FasTrak account remain active if I am an infrequent or seasonal user?
Your account will remain active, providing you have some activity on your account during a period of 12 months. If there is no activity on your account for a period of 12 months or more, you will be notified by mail that your account will be automatically closed and instructions will be provided on how to return your toll tag(s) for proper credit. Upon receipt of your toll tag(s), your account will be closed and any balance will be refunded to you.
  • Why is providing the Customer Service Center my license plate number(s) important?
Should your toll tag not read as you drive through the toll plaza, a photo of your license plate will be taken. The toll amount will then be deducted from your account by matching the license plate information in the photo with the license plate information on file with FasTrak. If there is no match, a violation notice or invoice (Golden Gate Bridge only) will be sent to the registered owner of the vehicle in the photo. As such, your vehicle information should be kept current with FasTrak in order to prevent violation notices and invoices (Golden Gate Bridge only) from being sent to you. You will be responsible for tolls charged to your account based on the identification of your license plate number, unless you notify us of changes to your license plate number.
  • What do I do if my FasTrak toll tag is lost, stolen, damaged or defective?
If the toll tag is lost, stolen or damaged, you will be liable for the deposit amount of $20. If it is lost/stolen and you immediately notify the FasTrak Customer Service Center, you will not be responsible for any unauthorized use of your toll tag after notification. If the toll tag is stolen, and documentation is provided (e.g., police report), the deposit may be adjusted. If the toll tag is defective, return it to the FasTrak Customer Service Center and request a replacement.
  • How can I return my toll tag and close my account?
You can return your toll tag to the Customer Service Center and request the closure of your account by completing an Account Closure Form and submitting it, along with your toll tag(s), in person or by mail to the Customer Service Center. If you are returning the toll tag by mail, we recommend sending the toll tag by certified or registered mail.
  • How do I change from a Credit Card to a Cash/Check payment method?
A refundable toll tag deposit is required for all Cash/Check accounts. Please contact the Customer Service Center for specific instructions on how to convert to a Cash/Check account. You can also follow the steps below:

    • Download an Account Update Form
    • Complete and sign the Account Update Form
    • Send the following to the FasTrak Customer Service Center:
      • A check (made payable to: "BATA") for the refundable toll tag deposit which is equal to $20 for each toll tag on your account.
      • Completed and signed Account Update Form
  • How can I replenish my account with cash?
A network of cash payment locations is available where you can conveniently replenish your FasTrak account with cash – no credit card is required. These cash payment services can be found at participating authorized merchants, including gas stations, convenience stores, or check cashing stores. Click here to find a participating cash payment location near you.

NOTE: Authorized merchants may collect a separate convenience fee for account replenishments.

Commercial Vehicles

  • What is an externally-mounted (or exterior) toll tag?
An externally-mounted (or exterior) toll tag is designed to be screw-mounted on the front bumper, where the license plate would normal be located. It is installed using special tools and tamper-resistant screws to prevent loss or theft. For more information, click here.
  • What are the advantages of using FasTrak for my business?
Your drivers don't need to have cash on hand; they don't have to stop at the toll booth - they only need to slow down; and they will be able to travel across the bridges faster. In addition, all their bridge crossings and toll payments are tracked by FasTrak and conveniently summarized on either a monthly or quarterly statement. This information is also available online anytime.
  • Is there a charge for the toll tag or for opening a FasTrak business account?
There is no charge for the toll tag and no service charge to open and maintain a FasTrak business account. To authorize automatic replenishments, establish an account using a credit card, which will require an initial prepaid balance of $25 per toll tag, plus a $20 per toll tag deposit for any toll tags over three (3). To establish a check-replenishment account, an initial prepaid balance of $50 per toll tag, plus a $20 per toll tag deposit, is due at the time the account is opened.
  • Can I be billed monthly?
No. FasTrak does not send out monthly bills/invoices. FasTrak is a prepaid toll collection system by which all toll usage is paid in advance.
  • Do I need to be bonded for FasTrak?
    No.
  • Do my drivers still need to stop in the toll lanes?
No, but they do need to slow to the posted speed limit for safety reasons and to allow the toll tag to be read.
  • Are there specific lanes my drivers must use?
All toll booths on all eight bridges in the Bay Area accept FasTrak. All of the seven state-owned bridges have at least one FasTrak-only lane in operation. Cash is no longer accepted at the Golden Gate Bridge toll plaza, but all lanes accept FasTrak.

Note that oversized vehicles must use specific lanes designated for oversized vehicles only.
  • Do I need to have a toll tag for each vehicle in my fleet?
All vehicles using FasTrak as a form of toll payment must have a toll tag mounted properly. It is recommended that each vehicle traveling across any Bay Area bridge on a regular basis be equipped with its own toll tag. However, since internal toll tags are mounted using only Velcro strips, they can be moved from vehicle to vehicle to better accommodate the vehicles in your fleet that only travel across bridges occasionally.
  • How can I monitor my business account balance?
You can monitor your account by logging into your FasTrak account on the web. You will see your toll tag toll usage posted within 24 hours of your driver's bridge crossing. You may also use our convenient toll-free phone system to get account balance and payment information.

Business Accounts

  • What exactly is a toll tag?
A toll tag is a small battery-powered device, programmed with specific customer account information, which is read by an antenna mounted above the toll plaza. There are two different types of toll tags: 1) Internal toll tags are mounted to the inside windshield using Velcro strips; and 2) External toll tags are installed on a vehicle's front license plate using special tools and tamper-resistant screws to prevent loss or theft.
  • What are the advantages of using FasTrak?
    1) You don't need to have cash on hand; 2) You don't have to stop at the toll booth, you only need to slow down; and 3) Your drivers will likely be able to travel across the bridges faster, since neither they nor any of the vehicles in front of them have to stop to pay the toll. A FasTrak-only lane can process almost three times as many vehicles per hour as a lane in which tolls are collected manually.

Note that oversized vehicles must use specific lanes designated for oversized vehicles only.
  • How do I know when to replenish my account and by what amount?
FasTrak will perform an evaluation after 35 days of usage, and then again after every 90 days of usage to establish your replenishment amount and your replenishment threshold. Based on this evaluation, your replenishment amount is equal to 45 days of toll usage and your replenishment threshold is equal to half of your replenishment amount. For credit card accounts, once your account reaches its threshold, FasTrak will automatically replenish your account for the average 45-day usage. For check accounts, you will need to check your balance online and replenish your account as needed if a “Low Balance” message is displayed at the lanes.
  • Do I have to have a toll tag for each vehicle in my fleet?
All vehicles using FasTrak as a form of toll payment must have a toll tag on board.
  • What happens if a toll tag is lost or stolen?
If a toll tag is lost or stolen, you must report it immediately to the Customer Service Center either by logging into your FasTrak account online at www.bayareafastrak.org or by calling (877) 229-8655 during normal business hours. You may also use our convenient toll-free phone system to get account balance and payment information.

Toll Violations

  • I am not a FasTrak account holder and I used the FasTrak toll lane without paying the toll. Will I receive a violation notice?
Yes. When you pass through a bridge toll lane without paying the toll, an image of your license plate is captured. If traveling on the Golden Gate Bridge, an invoice will be mailed to the vehicle’s registered owner. For all other bridges, a violation notice is sent to the vehicle’s registered owner within 21 days of the toll violation at the address on file with the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV), pursuant to the Streets and Highways Code Section 27174.1. The first notice requests payment for the toll amount and an additional $25 penalty. If you fail to respond to the instructions on the first notice, a second notice will be sent for the toll amount plus a $70 penalty ($25 penalty plus $45 late penalty). Failure to respond to the second notice will result in additional penalties and fees and referral of the amount due to a collections agency and/or the withholding of your vehicle registration by the DMV.

You can resolve your violation online by paying the balance due using a credit card, or you can submit a dispute. To pay your violation by check, please follow the instructions described on the violation notice.
  • Why do I receive an invoice when I cross the Golden Gate Bridge without stopping, but a toll violation notice when I cross any of the other Bay Area bridges without stopping?
The Golden Gate Bridge converted to All Electronic Tolling (AET) and uses invoice tolling, a system that takes a picture of your license plate and mails you an invoice for the toll amount. The other Bay Area bridges do not offer invoice tolling. Therefore, if you do not have a FasTrak account or a license plate account, you must stop at the toll plaza and pay your tolls in cash. The best way to avoid violations is to sign up for a FasTrak account. FasTrak account users also receive discounts on Golden Gate Bridge tolls.
  • I am a FasTrak account holder, but I received a toll violation notice. What should I do?
If you opened your FasTrak account in the Bay Area and received a violation notice, you can resolve it either online by going to Violations, or by mail by providing your FasTrak account number or toll tag number on the notice and submitting it to the address indicated on the notice. You should also update your account information to make sure all your vehicle information is registered correctly. Your toll amount will be charged to your account, and any penalties may be waived.

If you opened your FasTrak account at a toll facility in Southern California (e.g., 91 Express Lanes, San Joaquin Hills, Foothill, and Eastern Toll Roads, Interstate 15, or South Bay Expressway) and received a violation notice from the Bay Area FasTrak Customer Service Center, you have 10 days from the date of the violation notice to contact the toll facility where you opened your account and provide your vehicle license plate number. After you have done so, the toll amount you owe will be automatically charged to your Southern California FasTrak account.
  • Is there anything I can do to avoid getting a violation notice if I did not pay the toll?
No. When a violation occurs, a violation payment notice is sent to the vehicle's registered owner. Toll collection staff are unable to accept payment for the violation tolls because it is not possible for them to match the payment with the violation that is being processed.
  • What are the penalties and late fees for a Notice of Toll Evasion?
It is a violation of the toll evasion statutes under California Vehicle Code Section 23302 et seq. and Streets and Highways Code Section 30843 if you fail to pay the established bridge toll. Pursuant to California Vehicle Code Section 40250 et seq., toll evasion violations shall be enforced by the issuance of notices of toll evasion, delinquent toll evasion and the imposition of civil penalties. The following is a schedule of toll evasion penalties:

    First Notice Issued:

    Toll plus $25 penalty

    Second Notice Issued:

Toll plus $70 ($25 penalty plus $45 late fee). If toll is paid within
15 days, penalty is reduced to $25

  • I received a letter from a collections agency (Law Enforcement Systems, Inc) regarding outstanding violations. I have a dispute or question about it. Who can I contact?
If you have a dispute or question about a letter you received from Law Enforcement Systems regarding outstanding violations, the FasTrak Customer Service Center is unable to assist you. Since your case was turned over to the collection agent, you will need to contact them to discuss your case further.

Law Enforcement Systems can be reached by calling (866) 424-9136 between 9:00 am and 5:00 pm EST. If you are calling after hours, you can leave a voicemail message, and an agent will return your call during normal business hours. Also, you can contact them by mail or fax at:

San Francisco International Airport (SFO)

  • How do I use FasTrak to pay for parking at SFO?
As you enter the parking lot, use the lane that is displaying the FasTrak logo. Most of these FasTrak lanes are positioned in the far left lanes. Your toll tag will be read, recording your date and time of entry as you enter the parking lot and the gate will rise. A parking ticket will not be issued.

As you exit the lot, you will again drive through the lane identified by the FasTrak logo and your toll tag will be read again, recording your time of exit. Stop at the exit device and read the payment screen. You will be issued a parking receipt which MUST be taken to open the exit gate.

Your parking fee will automatically be calculated using entry and exit dates and times. If the fee is $10.00 or less it will be posted to your FasTrak account directly. Parking fees greater than $10.00 will be charged directly to your credit card on file with your FasTrak account. All transactions will be included on your FasTrak statement or can be viewed by logging into your account on the web.
  • What if I do not want to participate in the Parking Program?
If you are a credit card customer you will automatically be opted into the Parking Program. If you do not want to pay your airport parking with FasTrak, you can either 1) use a non-FasTrak lane when entering/exiting the lot, or 2) choose to opt-out of the parking program. To opt out, you will need to log into your FasTrak account on the web select "Parking" on the left hand side of your screen, then select "Opt out". You can also contact the FasTrak Customer Service Center by mail, fax, or phone to opt out. If you choose to opt back into the Parking Program at a later date, you must go through the same procedures.
  • Why do I need to a credit card account to use my FasTrak account to pay for parking?
Parking fees above $10.00 are charged directly to the credit card listed on your FasTrak account. In order to use FasTrak at any airport parking facility, you must have a credit card on your FasTrak account. Customers who replenish their account by cash or check are not eligible for airport parking, because the account cannot be automatically replenished when parking fees are posted.
  • Will the parking charge be posted to my account?
Parking fees of $10.00 or less will be deducted from your FasTrak account's prepaid balance and will appear on your FasTrak statement as deductions. Parking fees greater than $10.00 will be charged directly to the credit card registered on your FasTrak account. A list of these charges will appear on the web under “Parking View” or on the last page of your statement under “FasTrak Plus”.
  • How much will be charged to my FasTrak Account?
You will be charged the same amount as you would if you paid the Parking Attendant at SFO.
  • Are there any additional fees for using FasTrak to pay for parking at SFO?
No. There are no fees to use FasTrak to pay for parking. It's simple. Just use your toll tag upon entry and exit, and the parking charges will either be deducted from your FasTrak account or charged directly to your credit card, depending on the parking amount due.
  • I was unable to use FasTrak to pay for parking. Why?
The following list of reasons will cause ineligibility for parking at SFO:

Cash or check account replenishment method
    • To use FasTrak to pay for parking at SFO, you must use a credit card as your FasTrak replenishment method. If you use cash/check as your replenishment method, you cannot use FasTrak to pay for parking.
    Opt Out was selected
    • If you chose to opt out of the Parking Program, you cannot use FasTrak to pay for parking at SFO.
Toll tag did not read at entrance/exit
    • A valid toll tag is needed upon entering or exiting the parking lot in order to use FasTrak to pay for your parking. If your toll tag did not beep or the gate did not open, you will not be able to use FasTrak to pay for parking. You should contact the FasTrak Customer Service Center to determine if a replacement toll tag is needed or if your FasTrak account needs attention.
    Negative Account Balance
    • If your account had a negative balance at the time you tried to enter or exit the parking lot, you will not be able to pay for parking using FasTrak.
  • I did not open my FasTrak account in the Bay Area. Am I eligible to use FasTrak to pay for parking at SFO?
Bay Area FasTrak customers and The Toll Roads customers are both eligible to use FasTrak at SFO. The Transportation Corridor Agency (TCA), which manages The Toll Roads, operates an independent process with SFO. Please call 1-800-378-8725 for information regarding your Toll Roads account.

Customers of Orange County's 91 Express Lanes, and San Diego's I-15 and South Bay Expressway, currently are not eligible to pay for parking at SFO. Please contact those agencies with any further questions.
  • My toll tag beeps when I drive through a parking lot at the Sacramento International Airport and Oakland International Airport. Can I pay for my parking there as well?
No. The Sacramento and Oakland International Airports do not participate in the Parking Program. There may be equipment at these airports which will cause your toll tag to beep, but no information is retained or billed to your FasTrak account.
  • I have a dispute or question about my parking charges. Who do I contact?
If you have a dispute or question about your parking charges, the FasTrak Customer Service Center cannot assist you with your dispute. You must contact SFO below:

  • I sent my dispute to FasTrak, but I have not received a response yet. What do I do?

Rental Vehicles

  • What are Pass24®, eToll®, TollPass®, and PlatePass®?
Each of these four programs are electronic toll payment systems that enable certain rental car customers to use the FasTrak lanes on the Bay Area toll bridges. These allow you to drive non-stop through the toll plaza in any lane with a FasTrak sign. Upon renting a vehicle from a participating rental car agency, these individual services charge tolls plus a service fee as agreed upon in your rental agreement. Not all rental car agencies participate in either the Pass24®, eToll®, TollPass®, or PlatePass® programs. You may not use carpool lanes unless you have the required number of occupants.

For a list of participating rental car agencies and for more information about Pass24®, go to www.rentatoll.com or call (877) 509-9506.

For a list of participating rental car agencies and for more information about either eToll® or TollPass®, go to www.htallc.com or call (800) 482-0159.

For a list of participating rental car agencies and for more information about PlatePass®, go to www.platepass.com or call (877) 411-4300.
  • How do these car tolling programs work?
If you rent a vehicle at one of the participating rental car agencies under the any one of these programs , and you signed up, you simply drive through the FasTrak lane without stopping and your tolls will be collected electronically. On the Golden Gate Bridge, you can drive through the toll plaza using any lane other than the designated carpool lane. The rental agency will also charge their service fees, as agreed upon in your rental agreement. Note: You cannot use these programs to pay tolls in the Bay Area Express Lanes. To pay your tolls in the Express Lanes, you must have a FasTrak toll tag in your rental vehicle.

If you are crossing the Golden Gate Bridge and do not wish to utilize a car tolling program you must make a One-Time toll payment BEFORE you cross. For all other Bay Area toll bridges, you can opt out of the car tolling programs by paying your toll in cash at the toll plaza. For the Golden Gate Bridge you will need the license plate of the rental vehicle and can make a payment online here, by phone at 1-877-BAY-TOLL, or at a cash payment location here.
  • If I have a FasTrak account, can I use my toll tag in a rental car that is under one of these rental car tolling programs?
Yes. You can use your FasTrak toll tag in a rental car, and the program will not be activated. If the toll tag is not mounted properly on the windshield of the rental car, the toll tag may not be read by the electronic toll collections system when you pass through the toll lane. If this occurs, you will need to contact the appropriate program to be charged for the tolls only through the program you signed up for and have any penalties and fees waived.
  • What if I did not sign up for the Pass24®, eToll®, TollPass®, or PlatePass® Programs and I accidently drove my rental car on the Golden Gate Bridge or through a FasTrak lane?
If you did not sign up for any of these programs upon renting your vehicle, you will be responsible for a toll invoice (Golden Gate Bridge only) or a violation notice which will include the tolls plus penalties and fees. An invoice (Golden Gate Bridge only) or toll violation notice (all other Bay Area bridges) will be issued to the address on file with the rental car agency. If the Golden Gate Bridge invoice is not paid by the due date, it will escalate to a violation notice. Violation penalties and fees are listed below. The rental agency may assess an additional fee for transferring the invoice (Golden Gate Bridge) or violation notice (all other Bay Area bridges) to your address.

  • The Golden Gate Bridge doesn’t accept cash at the toll plaza, how do I pay my rental vehicle toll?
If you rent a vehicle at one of the participating rental car agencies under any of these programs, you simply drive through any lane of the toll plaza without stopping and your tolls will be collected electronically. The rental agency will also charge their service fees, as agreed upon in your rental agreement.

If you are crossing the Golden Gate Bridge and you do not wish to use the car tolling programs, avoiding service fees, you must make a One-Time toll payment either before or up to two days after crossing. You will need the license plate of the rental vehicle and can make a payment online here, by phone at 1-877-BAY-TOLL, or at a cash payment location here.

Bay Area Express Lanes

  • What are the Silicon Valley Express Lanes?
The Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority (VTA) is implementing the Silicon Valley Express Lanes Program to provide congestion relief through effective use of existing lanes. Silicon Valley Express Lanes (sometimes referred to as High Occupancy Toll or “HOT” Lanes) will have no toll booths, and fees will be collected electronically using FasTrak. Tolls for solo drivers will vary based on the level of congestion and will be adjusted to maintain a free flow of service in the Express Lanes. All eligible carpool vehicles will have free access to the Express Lanes. For more information, please visit: http://www.vta.org/expresslanes.
  • Where will the SR 237 Express Lanes be located?
The majority of the SR 237 Express Lanes corridor will be along SR 237 in Santa Clara County between Interstate 880 and North First Street. The westbound SR 237 Express Lane will be a total of 6.5 miles long between Dixon Landing Road on I-880 and Lawrence Expressway on SR 237. The eastbound SR 237 Express Lane will be a total of 4.5 miles long between North First Street on SR 237 and Dixon Landing Road on I-880. The westbound SR 237 Express Lane will operate from 5:00 am to 10:00 am and 3:00 pm to 7:00 pm, Monday through Friday. The eastbound SR 237 Express Lane will operate from 5:00 am to 9:00 am and from 3:00 pm to 7:00 pm, Monday through Friday. For more information, please visit: http://www.vta.org/expresslanes/SR_237_project.html.
  • What are the Alameda County Express Lanes?
As part of a long-term plan to improve traffic flow on Interstates 680 and 580, the Alameda County Congestion Management Agency is converting some existing carpool lanes to Express Lanes – sometimes called High Occupancy Toll (HOT) Lanes. Carpools will continue to use the lanes for free while solo drivers will use the lanes for a fee that will vary depending on the level of congestion in the Express Lanes. The variable fee will make excess capacity available to paying motorists while guaranteeing a reasonable travel time for all users of the lanes.
  • Where is the Alameda County Express Lanes project?
The I-680 Express Lane project is located on a 14-mile stretch of southbound I-680 between Highway 84 on the north and Highway 237 on the south. Approximately 80% of the project is located in Alameda County, with the remainder in Santa Clara County.

The I-580 Express Lanes project is located on a 12-mile stretch of I-580 from just west of the Hacienda Drive Interchange to just east of the Greenville Road Undercrossing in Alameda County.
  • How do the Alameda Express Lanes work?
The new Express Lanes operate as follows:

    • Solo drivers who want a more reliable trip on southbound I-680 and eastbound I-580 need to obtain and mount a FasTrak toll tag on their windshields. They are charged a toll each time they choose to use the Express Lane. Carpool vehicles with two or more people, motorcycles, transit buses and eligible hybrids can continue to use the lane for free.
    • The existing carpool lanes have been converted to Express Lanes with new striping, specific entry and exit points, overhead electronic signs and a FasTrak electronic toll collection system. The new Express Lanes are separated from general-purpose lanes by triple lines, except at entry and exit points.
    • The operation is fully electronic. There are no tollbooths or traffic gates, so customers do not need to slow down or stop to provide a toll payment.
    • Motorists with a FasTrak toll tag can enter the Express Lanes at designated places. An overhead electronic sign displays the current toll being assessed. Toll costs vary based on real-time traffic levels on the Express Lanes to ensure that traffic in the lanes flows smoothly.
