What is FasTrak?

In the Bay Area, FasTrak is a way to pay for tolls on all toll bridges, express lanes, and parking at the San Francisco International Airport electronically. A valid FasTrak account makes it quick and convenient to pay tolls because you don't need to carry cash. It also saves you time by letting you cross bridge toll plazas nonstop, allows carpools to use the carpool lanes and receive discounted rates on toll bridges, lets solo drivers use the Express Lanes, and gives you the option to bypass the parking pay booth at the airport.

FasTrak is not a "pay as you go" system. You deposit money into your FasTrak account and each time you use your tag, the toll amount is deducted from your account balance. Maintaining a FasTrak account is free - when you close your account and return your tag, the remaining pre-paid balance will be returned to you.

What is a toll tag (or transponder)?

A toll tag (or transponder) is a small battery-powered device that transmits a radio signal. The lane equipment reads the tag information and the number of axles on your vehicle. This information is used to deduct the correct toll amount from your account balance. The time, date, and location are collected as well.

Note: Specific vehicle models may require an externally-mounted toll tag (also referred to as an exterior toll tag). If your vehicle is manufactured with a metal oxide windshield, an externally-mounted toll tag is recommended. A list of vehicles with metal oxide windshields can be found here. If your vehicle has a flat, vertical windshield or there is any metal hanging over the windshield, such as with a visor or storage rack, an externally-mounted toll tag is also recommended. Call the Customer Service Center to determine if your vehicle may need an externally-mounted toll tag.

What are the advantages of using FasTrak?
  • It's fast. Dedicated lanes let you breeze past lines at the toll booth.
  • It's easy. The toll tag does all the work-no more fumbling for cash!
  • It's free. There are no fees to open or to maintain a FasTrak account.
  • It saves money. On the Golden Gate Bridge, a discounted toll rate is offered to all FasTrak users.
  • It provides incentives to carpool. If you qualify as a carpool, you can receive discounted toll rates and use the carpool lane on toll bridges.
  • It allows express lane use. You can use express lanes as a solo driver to save time and avoid congestion with a valid FasTrak tag.
Where can FasTrak toll tags be used?

FasTrak can be used anywhere the FasTrak logo is displayed in the State of California. In the Bay Area, FasTrak toll tags can be used on all toll bridges, express lanes, and at parking facilities at the San Francisco International Airport. In Southern California, FasTrak can be used on toll roads and express lanes. For more information on where to use your FasTrak tag, visit the Where To Use It page.

How do I get started with a FasTrak account?

There are two ways to get started with FasTrak. One way is to sign up for an account, either online or send in an application, and we'll mail you a ready-to-use toll tag. The other way is to pick up a tag at one of our convenient retail locations. Then, activate the toll tag by finishing the account enrollment process online or over the phone with one of our friendly Customer Service representatives. For select retail locations, click here.

Is there a charge to open a FasTrak account?

There are no fees to open or to maintain a FasTrak account. As toll tags are leased, refundable security deposits do apply. The security deposit is $20 per toll tag. The deposit is refunded to you when you close your account and return the toll tag in good condition. If you maintain a valid credit card on your account, the security deposit for up to three toll tags is waived.

FasTrak is not a "pay as you go" system. You deposit money into your FasTrak account and each time you use your tag, the toll amount is deducted from your account balance. An initial balance is required upon account opening so that you have a prepaid balance from which tolls can be deducted. To open an account using a valid credit card, an initial prepaid balance of $25 per toll tag is collected. To open an account using cash or a check deposit, an initial prepaid balance of $50 per toll tag plus a $20 per toll tag deposit is collected. The deposit is refunded to you when you close your account and return the toll tag in good condition. Any remaining balance on your account will also be refunded to you upon account closure.

Can I use FasTrak with my motorcycle?

Yes. Motorcycles can use FasTrak to pay tolls by mounting their toll tag in a secure location. It is recommended that you use one of the following methods to secure your toll tag:

  • Place toll tag in your front pocket, as it can be read through the material.
  • Place toll tag inside a cycle net (somewhere on top) that drapes over the gas tank.

We do not advise you to hold the toll tag up while driving through the toll lane as it may not be read accurately. Also, we are not responsible for any lost toll tags due to the toll tag not adhering to the motorcycle windshield. For more information on how to properly mount your toll tag, please visit the Mounting Instructions page.

On the Golden Gate Bridge, the direction of traffic changes in some of the lanes. Will the FasTrak system charge me tolls in error when I'm travelling northbound in the reversible lanes?

Tolls are only collected in the southbound (into San Francisco) direction. The FasTrak system on the Golden Gate Bridge is turned off when toll lanes are dedicated to northbound traffic.

  • Credit Card: Visa, MasterCard, American Express, and Discover

Visit the Ways to Pay page for more information on where each payment type is accepted.

What are the toll rates on the toll bridges?

The toll schedule for all Bay Area toll bridges can be found at Where To Use It.

Do I need to use certain lanes at the toll plaza to use my FasTrak toll tag?

All toll booths on all eight toll bridges in the Bay Area accept FasTrak. But, using the FasTrak-only lanes will save you time as you do not have to wait for any cash toll payers queued ahead of you.

What happens when I drive through a toll plaza?

As you drive through a toll plaza, the Driver Feedback Display, located just past the collection booth window, will advise you of your account status as you hear your toll tag beep.

  • If your FasTrak account is valid and has a sufficient balance, it will display "VALID" or "VALID FASTRAK".
  • If your FasTrak account has a low balance, it will display "LOW BAL" or "ACCOUNT LOW".
  • If your FasTrak account is invalid, for any reason, the display will be blank or it will display "CALL FASTRAK".

Note: There are no Driver Feedback Displays in the FasTrak lanes at the Benicia-Martinez Bridge, nor are there any in the Bay Area Express Lanes.

I drive an oversized commercial truck. Are there specific lanes I must use even if I have a valid FasTrak toll tag?

Oversized vehicles must use specific lanes designated for oversized vehicles as specified by the California Vehicle Code.

Which Bay Area toll bridges have FasTrak-only lanes?

FasTrak-only lanes are not staffed by toll collectors so that FasTrak users are able to drive through the toll plaza without having to stop.

All of the seven state-owned toll bridges have at least one FasTrak-only lane in operation. At the Golden Gate Bridge, the lanes are all electronic, which means there are no toll collectors. FasTrak can be used in all the lanes at the Golden Gate Bridge without having to stop at the toll plaza.

For more information, go to Where To Use It.

How fast can I travel through the FasTrak lane on the toll bridges?

For most toll lanes dedicated to exclusive use by FasTrak users on all toll bridges in the Bay Area, the speed limit is 25 miles per hour and enforced by the California Highway Patrol. For toll lanes that are shared with FasTrak and cash paying motorists, FasTrak users should proceed with extreme caution, being alert for stopped vehicles and toll collectors. For Bay Area toll bridges with Open Road Tolling lanes (e.g., Benicia-Martinez Bridge), the posted speed limit is 55 miles per hour.

If I am in an eligible carpool vehicle and travel through a carpool lane with my toll tag, will I be charged on my FasTrak account?

Golden Gate Bridge

Yes. To be eligible to receive the discounted carpool toll rate of $4.25 at the Golden Gate Bridge, you must have a FasTrak account in good standing and travel through a designated carpool lane. Eligible carpool vehicles include: (1) 2-axle vehicles with 3 or more people; (2) motorcycles, including three-wheeled motorcycles; and (3) buses. Two-seat vehicles and vehicles with rear axle dual tires do not qualify as a carpool on the Golden Gate Bridge. Carpool hours are 5 am to 9 am and 4 pm to 6 pm, weekdays except on specific observed holidays: New Year's Day, Presidents' Day (third Monday in Feb.), Memorial Day (last Monday in May), Independence Day (July 4), Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day, and Christmas Day.

If a valid FasTrak toll tag is not present in the vehicle, the discounted toll rate will not apply, no matter whether or not the other carpool discount requirements are met.

All Other Toll Bridges

As of July 1, 2010, carpools are charged a discounted toll rate of $2.50. Carpools must use designated carpool lanes and pay the toll with FasTrak to qualify for the discounted toll rate. If you drive through a carpool toll lane without a FasTrak toll tag (even if you meet occupancy requirements for the carpool lane), a violation notice will be sent to the vehicle's registered owner. It is a violation of the toll evasion statutes under California Vehicle Code Section 23302 et seq. and Streets and Highways Code Section 30843 to fail to pay the established bridge toll.

How can I pay a Golden Gate Bridge toll?

The Golden Gate Bridge is the first toll facility in the Bay Area to convert to All Electronic Tolling. Click here to learn about the new toll payment options for southbound travel (into San Francisco) on the Golden Gate Bridge.

For a complete list of FAQs regarding All Electronic Tolling on the Golden Gate Bridge, click here.

What Are Express Lanes?

Express Lanes are specially-designated highway lanes that allow solo drivers to choose to pay a toll to use the lanes and that are free to carpools, motorcycles, vanpools and other eligible vehicles during the designated hours of operation. Outside of the hours of operation, the lanes are open to regular traffic.

What's the difference between an express lane and a high occupancy vehicle (HOV) lane?

To drive in HOV lanes, you must be in a carpool, vanpool, public transit vehicle, riding a motorcycle or other HOV-exempt vehicle during designated hours of operation. Outside the hours of operation, carpool lanes revert to general traffic use.

With express lanes, the same general carpool principles apply, but other vehicles are given the choice to pay to use the lanes. This allows the unused capacity of an HOV lane to be utilized for a fee so that all lanes benefit from the additional freeway movement. For single occupany vehicles, the express lane acts as a toll road. In the Bay Area, tolls are collected electronically using a FasTraktoll tag.

What are the benefits of express lanes?

Express Lanes offer a new choice to highway drivers, utilize additional HOV lane capacity, encourage carpools and vanpools, and provide more reliable travel times.

How much does it cost to use an express lane?

Express lane tolls change depending on traffic conditions, increasing as traffic congestion increases and decreasing as traffic congestion decreases. Toll rates are set by the express lane operator. For example, the tolls for the SR-237 express lane ranges from $0.30 to $4.75.

What are the options to pay your toll in an express lane?

Express Lanes use FasTrak for the electronic collection of tolls. There are no tollbooths or traffic gates, customers do not need to slow down or stop to provide a toll payment. A valid FasTrak account and a properly mounted toll tag are required.

How does the express lane toll system work?

Tolls are collected electronically using a valid FasTrak tag. The toll system is fully electronic. Roadside equipment recognizes the FasTrak tag, records the transaction, and transmits the information to the FasTrak Customer Service Center to automatically deduct the toll from the account holder's pre-paid balance.

Overhead electronic pricing signs will display the toll rate to use the express lanes to specific destinations.

In open access express lane configurations, tolls from driving to successive destinations, each marked by an overhead electronic pricing sign displaying the toll rate, will be combined to form a single 'trip'.

Tolls will only be collected during the posted express lane hours of operation. Outside of the hours of operation, the overhead signage will display "OPEN TO PUBLIC" and any vehicle may use the lane toll free during these times.

Are there any express lanes open now in the Bay Area?

Yes. Currently, express lanes are open on the I-680 southbound over the Sunol Grade and the I-580 through Dublin, Pleasanton and Livermore. These express lanes are operated by the Alameda County Transportation Commission. In the southern part of the Bay Area, there are express lanes on SR-237 which is operated by the Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority. On I-680 between Walnut Creek and San Ramon, the new I-680 Contra Costa Express Lanes will open in 2017 and are operated by the Metropolitan Transportation Commission.

How do cars enter and exit the express lanes?

Express lanes will have either an open access or limited access lane configuration (or a mix of the two), depending on operational issues. For limited access, there are specific designated entry and exit points. For open access, drivers can freely enter and exit the express lanes where they choose just like today's HOV lanes in the Bay Area.

Currently, the SR-237 Express lanes use a limited access configuration, with one entry point and one exit point. The I-680 Sunol Express Lane is limited access as well, but has multiple locations to enter and exit the express lane. The I-580 Express Lanes have some limited access sections, but for the most part, use an open access configuration. The new I-680 Contra Costa Express lanes are open access for their entire length.

What are the hours of operation for the express lanes?

Hours of operation are posted on signage along express lanes. Hours of operations vary by express lane location and mirror HOV lane hours of operation.

How do you use an express lane as a solo driver?

Solo drivers can choose to pay to use an express lane. Here's how:

  1. Mount a valid FasTrak toll tag properly on your vehicle's windshield.
  2. Check the posted toll rate on the overhead signage.
  3. Enter the express lane at entry points.
  4. Enjoy the convenience of the express lane.
  5. Exit the express lane at exit points.
  6. Review your trip details and tolls on your FasTrak statement.

What if I'm not from the Bay Area? How can I use the Bay Area Express Lanes?

Anyone with a mailing address in the United States is able to sign up for a FasTrak account. Purchase a toll tag at a local retail store location and activate it through the new account enrollment process. It is free to open and maintain a FasTrak account; you only pay for your tolls. A security deposit may be required for the tag, but it will be fully refunded to you when you return the toll tag to FasTrak.

Even for short visits to the Bay Area, signing up for a FasTrak account has its benefits. FasTrak allows you to use Express Lanes, qualify for carpool and bridge toll discounts, cross toll bridges without having to stop at the toll booth, and even pay for parking at the San Francisco International Airport (SFO). And, FasTrak is recognized statewide. Your FasTrak toll tag can be used anywhere you see the FasTrak logo displayed, including the toll roads in Southern California.

How do I use FasTrak to pay for parking at SFO?

As you enter the parking lot, use the lane that displays the FasTrak logo. Most of these FasTrak lanes are positioned in the far left lanes. Your toll tag will be read, recording your date and time of entry as you enter the parking lot and the gate will rise. A parking ticket will not be issued.

As you exit the lot, you will again drive through the lane identified by the FasTrak logo and your toll tag will be read again, recording your time of exit. Stop at the exit device and read the payment screen. You will be issued a parking receipt which MUST be taken to open the exit gate.

Your parking fee will automatically be calculated using entry and exit dates and times. If the fee is $10.00 or less, it will be deducted from your prepaid account balance. Parking fees greater than $10.00 will be charged directly to the primary credit card stored to your FasTrak account. All transactions will be included on your FasTrak statement or can be viewed by logging into your account on the web.

How do I know if I can participate in the Parking Program?

Participation in the Parking Program requires a credit card stored as your primary payment method on your FasTrak account. If you do have a credit card stored to your account, it is likely that you were opted in to the Parking Program during the account enrollment process. To check your participation status, sign in to your account online and look at your Account Settings. There is a checkbox for the Parking Program that you can select to participate or unselect to opt out. You can change your participation level at any time. You can also contact the Customer Service Center for assistance.

If you do not have a credit card stored to your FasTrak account, you are not able to participate in the Parking Program. Please note that License Plate account holders also cannot participate in the Parking Program.

What if I do not want to participate in the Parking Program?

If you do not want to pay your airport parking with FasTrak, you can either 1) use a non-FasTrak lane when entering/exiting the lot, or 2) choose to opt-out of the parking program. To opt out, you can unselect participation in the Parking Program under your Account Settings or contact the FasTrak Customer Service Center for assistance.

Why do I need to store a credit card as my primary payment method to use FasTrak to pay for parking?

FasTrak is a convenient way to electronically pay for your parking and not have to wait in line at the parking pay booth. Parking fees above $10.00 are charged directly to the credit card listed on your FasTrak account, not deducted from your prepaid account balance. This is so that your parking costs will not likely affect the calculation of your monthly average toll activity or replenishment amount.

Will the parking charge be posted to my account?

Parking fees of $10.00 or less will be deducted from your FasTrak account's prepaid balance and will appear on your FasTrak statement as deductions. Parking fees greater than $10.00 will be charged directly to the credit card registered on your FasTrak account. A list of these charges will appear on the web under Transactions or on your statement under "FasTrak Parking".

How much will be charged to my FasTrak Account?

You will be charged the same amount as you would if you paid the Parking Attendant at SFO.

Are there any additional fees for using FasTrak to pay for parking at SFO?

No. There are no fees to use FasTrak to pay for parking. It's simple. Just use your toll tag upon entry and exit, and the parking charges will either be deducted from your FasTrak account or charged directly to your credit card, depending on the parking amount due.

I was unable to use FasTrak to pay for parking. Why?

The following list of reasons will cause ineligibility for parking at SFO:

Cash or check account replenishment method

To use FasTrak to pay for parking at SFO, you must use a credit card as your FasTrak replenishment method. If you use cash/check as your replenishment method, you cannot use FasTrak to pay for parking.

Opt Out was selected

If you chose to opt out of the Parking Program, you cannot use FasTrak to pay for parking at SFO.

Toll tag did not read at entrance/exit

A valid toll tag is needed upon entering or exiting the parking lot in order to use FasTrak to pay for your parking. If your toll tag did not beep or the gate did not open, you will not be able to use FasTrak to pay for parking. You should contact the FasTrak Customer Service Center to determine if a replacement toll tag is needed or if your FasTrak account needs attention.

Negative Account Balance

If your account had a negative balance at the time you tried to enter or exit the parking lot, you will not be able to pay for parking using FasTrak.

I did not open my FasTrak account in the Bay Area. Am I eligible to use FasTrak to pay for parking at SFO?

Customers of the Bay Area FasTrak and The Toll Roads are eligible to use their FasTrak toll tags at SFO. The Transportation Corridor Agency (TCA), which manages The Toll Roads, operates an independent process with SFO. Please call 1-800-378-8725 for information regarding your Toll Roads account.

Customers of Orange County's 91 Express Lanes, and San Diego's I-15 and South Bay Expressway, currently are not eligible to pay for parking at SFO. Please contact those agencies with any further questions.

My toll tag beeps when I drive through a parking lot at the Sacramento International Airport and Oakland International Airport. Can I pay for my parking there as well?

No. The Sacramento and Oakland International Airports do not participate in the Bay Area FasTrak Parking Program. There may be equipment at these airports which will cause your toll tag to beep, but no information is retained or billed to your FasTrak account.

I have a dispute or question about my parking charges. Whom do I contact?

If you have a dispute or question about your parking charges, you must contact SFO for assistance. The FasTrak Customer Service Center cannot assist you with your parking charges.

I sent my parking dispute to FasTrak, but I have not received a response yet. What do I do?

If you submitted a parking charge dispute to the FasTrak Customer Service Center, it was forwarded to SFO. Please contact SFO directly for information regarding your dispute.

Do I own the FasTrak toll tag?

No. The toll tag is on loan to you by the FasTrak Customer Service Center.

If a credit card is stored as the primary payment method on your FasTrak account, there is no security deposit for up to the first three (3) toll tags on your account. For each toll tag over three, there is a $20 deposit. If you do not have a credit card stored to your FasTrak account, there is a $20 deposit for each toll tag. All deposits are refunded when the account is closed and the toll tag is returned in good condition to the FasTrak Customer Service Center.

Is there a deposit required for my toll tag(s)?

A security deposit may be required when you open your FasTrak account.

For accounts that use a credit card as the primary payment method, a deposit will NOT be required for the first three (3) toll tags issued to your FasTrak account. If more than three toll tags are issued, you will be charged a deposit of $20 for each additional toll tag.

For accounts that use cash or checks as the primary payment method, a refundable deposit of $20 is required for each toll tag.

Note: Should you close your account and return your toll tag in good working condition, the deposit will be refunded to you. Deposits may be forfeited for damaged, lost or stolen toll tags.

Can I switch my toll tag from vehicle to vehicle?

Yes. The toll tag mounted to your windshield can be moved from vehicle to vehicle as long as it is properly mounted at each location, as described in the Mounting Instructions. It is recommended that the vehicle information, including license plate number, make, and model for each vehicle, be listed on your account. However, to avoid potential problems, we recommend that you obtain toll tags for each vehicle.

The potential problems that can occur when sharing a toll tag between several vehicles include, losing the toll tag, having the toll tag in the wrong car when you need it, or wearing out the Velcro strips much sooner than normal. In addition, your statement will not distinguish which car you were in when crossing the bridge or using the Express Lanes, and for some customers, this is important for tracking their toll transactions. If you want to track your toll transactions by vehicle, you need to obtain separate toll tags for separate vehicles.

You can request additional toll tags by logging into your account online and clicking on "Tags & Vehicles". You can also download and complete an Additional Toll Tag Request Form and send it to the Customer Service Center.

What do I do if my toll tag is not working?

If the message on the Driver Feedback Display at the toll booth is blank or if the toll tag does not beep as you drive through the toll plaza or toll gantry, there may be a problem with your toll tag or with your account. If you notice these problems, contact the Customer Service Center for assistance.

What do I do if my FasTrak toll tag is lost, stolen, damaged or defective?

If the toll tag is lost, stolen or damaged, you will be liable for the deposit amount of $20. If it is lost/stolen and you immediately notify the FasTrak Customer Service Center, you will not be responsible for any unauthorized use of your toll tag after notification. If the toll tag is stolen and documentation is provided (e.g., police report), the deposit may be adjusted. If the toll tag is defective, return it to the FasTrak Customer Service Center and request a replacement at no additional cost.

How can I return my toll tag?

You can return your toll tag in person or by mail to the Customer Service Center. If you are returning the toll tag by mail, we recommend sending the toll tag by certified or registered mail.

Toll tags must be sent within 10 business days of the request for account closure.

How do I replace a toll tag that is no longer working or exchange it for a different type of toll tag?

If you would like to replace a toll tag that is no longer working or would like to replace your toll tag with a different type, call the Customer Service Center at 1-877-BAY-TOLL (1-877-229-8655) and speak to a customer service representative. Tell them that you would like to replace a toll tag. Provide the toll tag number of the toll tag you are replacing and specify which type of toll tag you would like in exchange. Your new toll tag will arrive in the mail. An envelope with pre-paid postage will be included for you to use to return your old toll tag.

Please note: Toll tag security deposits apply to all toll tags, including replacement toll tags. When the toll tag you are returning is received by the Customer Service Center, your security deposit balance will be adjusted accordingly.

Where can I find a retail store that sells FasTrak toll tags?

FasTrak toll tags can be found at Costco, Safeway and Walgreen retail stores. For a list of retail store locations selling FasTrak, please visit the Where to Buy page.

Can I use my retail toll tag immediately after leaving the store?

Yes. Of your total purchase price, $20 is held as a temporary deposit and the remaining balance is available for use immediately to pay for tolls. You will need to open an account with the toll tag or add it to an existing account or else it will be inactivated shortly after its first use.

How long do I have to sign up for a new account or to add the retail toll tag to my existing account?

While a small balance is available for immediate use once you purchase a retail toll tag, we recommend that you complete the enrollment process for a new account or to add the toll tag to an existing account immediately after purchase. Otherwise, you will have seven (7) business days from its first use to complete the enrollment process or to add the toll tag to your existing account or else the toll tag will become "inactive" and in violation of California Vehicle Code Section 40250 et seq. and any other applicable law.

I thought FasTrak was a free service. What am I paying for when I purchase a toll tag from a retail store?

The purchase price you pay at a retail store is used as a temporary deposit until you go through the registration process and open an account. There are no fees to lease a tag, but depending on the account type, a refundable security deposit may be necessary.

If you register your toll tag and enroll in FasTrak using a credit card, the full purchase price and any promotional tolls from the retail store will be applied to your account balance and no security deposit will be required. (But if you fail to return the toll tag at account closure, your credit card will be charged $20 as the security deposit.)

If you register your toll tag and enroll in FasTrak using cash or a check, $20 from the purchase price will be used as the tag security deposit and the rest of your purchase price will be applied to your pre-paid toll account balance, along with any promotional tolls. When you return your toll tag at account closure, your security deposit will be refunded to you.

When I purchased my toll tag from a retail store, there was a promotion advertised for free tolls. How do I get my free tolls?

The promotion is for new accounts only. Upon opening up a new FasTrak account and registering your toll tag online or by phone, the free tolls will be credited to your prepaid toll balance. Offer limited to one per new account. This offer is not valid for existing FasTrak accounts.

Can I purchase more than one toll tag from a retail store, but only open one new FasTrak account?

Yes. You can have one FasTrak account with multiple toll tags. All you need to do is to enroll in a new account using one of the retail toll tags. At the completion of the enrollment process, print out the confirmation page that identifies your new FasTrak account number. You will need it for the next step. Using the Add a Tag to An Existing Account function, add the other retail toll tags to your account.

It is important to note that any promotional offer for free tolls is valid only for new accounts, limited to one offer per new account. Therefore, when you register a toll tag to an existing account, that toll tag is not eligible for the promotional free tolls.

How do I return a toll tag that I purchased from a retail store?

All toll tags must be returned to the FasTrak Customer Service Center. Even a brand new toll tag in its original packaging must be returned to the FasTrak Customer Service Center, not to the retail store where it was purchased. If you have not completed the enrollment process with the toll tag or added it to an existing account yet, you must do so before you can return it. This step is necessary so that we know who and where to send any refund amount to. Or, you can return the toll tag in person at the walk in counter of the Customer Service Center.

To complete the enrollment process, click here. Then request to closure your account by completing and submitting an Account Closure Form along with your retail toll tag, in person or by mail, to the Customer Service Center. If you are returning the toll tag by mail, we recommend sending the toll tag by certified or registered mail.

I accidentally threw away/lost/misplaced my Velcro strips, which had the validation code printed on them. Can I still register my retail toll tag without the validation code?

Yes. You can contact the FasTrak Customer Service Center and provide the toll tag number. They will be able to give you the validation code. They can also assist you with the account enrollment process or with adding the toll tag to your existing account over the phone.

What is a FasTrak Flex toll tag?

Carpools, vanpools, motorcycles and other toll-exempt vehicles will need a FasTrak Flex toll tag to drive toll-free in the new I-580 and I-680 Contra Costa express lanes. FasTrak Flex toll tags work just like a regular FasTrak toll tag at all other FasTrak toll facilities, including the eight Bay Area toll bridges and the parking garages at the San Francisco International Airport.

I already have a FasTrak toll tag. Do I also need a FasTrak Flex toll tag?

You only need to get the FasTrak Flex toll tag if you are a carpool, vanpool, motorcycle or other toll-exempt vehicle that will use the I-580 or I-680 Contra Costa express lanes. Otherwise, your standard toll tag will work on all express lanes as well as all other FasTrak facilities.

What are the switch positions on a FasTrak Flex toll tag for?

The switch positions are used to tell the toll system the number of occupants in the vehicle so that the correct toll amount is collected and to assist with CHP enforcement of express lane use. Remember to set the switch prior to starting your trip.

On the SR-237, I-580, I-680 Sunol and I-680 Contra Costa express lanes

When set in the "1" position, the toll system will deduct the full toll amount from your account. When set in "2" or "3+", no toll will be deducted from your account, but the system will record your trip and will highlight your toll-free status to CHP for proper enforcement of the express lanes.

At toll bridges and parking garages

Regardless of which position the toll tag is switched to, the system will deduct the full toll from your account. At toll bridges, you must continue to use the designated carpool lanes to received discounted carpool rates.

How much does it cost to get a FasTrak Flex toll tag?

Standard FasTrak toll tags and the FasTrak Flex toll tags are treated the same way - free! There are no fees to open or to maintain a FasTrak account, regardless of the type of toll tag you use.

How can I get a FasTrak Flex toll tag?

FasTrak Flex toll tags are available from the FasTrak Customer Service Center. Order them online at www.bayareafastrak.org, over the phone with a Customer Service Representative at 1-877-BAY-TOLL (1-877-229-8655), or pick one up at the in-person counter at the Customer Service Center.

Do I need a FasTrak Flex toll tag to use the SR-237 and I-680 Sunol express lanes as a carpool?

Currenty, no. Carpools and other toll-exempt vehicles do not require a FasTrak Flex toll tag to receive toll-free travel in these express lanes. If you have a standard FasTrak toll tag in your vehicle, it must be placed in your Mylar bag before travel to avoid toll charges. If you have a FasTrak Flex toll tag in your vehicle, be sure it is set to the proper setting when traveling on the SR-237 or the I-680 Sunol express lanes.

Do I need a FasTrak Flex toll tag to get the carpool discount on toll bridges?

To receive carpool discounts at toll bridges, you are required to use the designated carpool lane with a valid FasTrak toll tag - either a standard FasTrak toll tag or a FasTrak Flex toll tag will work.

What are my responsibilities as a FasTrak user?

Your responsibilities as a FasTrak user are:

  • Maintain a minimum account balance as described in the License Agreement
  • Mount the toll tag as described in the Mounting Instructions
  • Report a lost, stolen, or damaged toll tag
  • Keep your address, credit card information, and vehicle information (e.g., license plate number/s) on your FasTrak account updated
How can I track my FasTrak account activity?

The FasTrak system tracks your toll usage and account balance. A monthly or quarterly statement itemizing your toll payments and account balance will be sent to you through the mail or email. The frequency and delivery method of your statements is determined by you. You may also check your account balance by logging into your account online or by calling the Customer Service Center.

How can I update the information on my FasTrak account?

You can update your account information (e.g., mailing address, day or evening phone numbers, vehicle information, etc.) by one of several ways:

  • Log into your account online. Under Account Settings, make any necessary edits and select Update to save the changes.
  • Download an Account Update Form and mail/fax it to the Customer Service Center.
  • Contact the Customer Service Center by phone. When contacting the Customer Service Center, please provide your FasTrak account number or toll tag serial number in your communications. (The serial number is located on the toll tag's barcode.)
How is the prepaid balance in my account replenished?

Account replenishment is different depending on the type of replenishment method you chose at the time you opened your account.

For accounts that use a credit card as the primary payment method, automatic charges will be made to your credit card to replenish your FasTrak account whenever your prepaid toll balance falls below $15 or the minimum threshold.

For accounts that use cash or checks as the primary payment method, you are responsible for depositing prepaid tolls into your FasTrak account whenever the "Low Bal" or "Account Low" message appears on the Driver Feedback Display located at the toll booth. You must replenish your account whenever your prepaid toll balance falls below $30 or the minimum threshold.

How is the replenishment amount determined?

For accounts that use a credit card as the primary payment method, the amount charged to your credit card (i.e., your replenishment amount) will be equal to one month's average usage (based on the previous 90 days of use) or $25, whichever amount is greater.

For accounts that use cash or checks as the primary payment method, the replenishment amount will be equal to one month's average usage (based on the previous 90 days of use) or $40, whichever amount is greater.

When is my replenishment threshold and replenishment amount adjusted?

Your FasTrak account's replenishment threshold and replenishment amount will be reviewed 35 days from the date your account is opened and every 90 days thereafter. It will be adjusted, if necessary, to reflect current use patterns. You will be notified on your statement whenever your replenishment amount has been adjusted, either increased or decreased. Replenishment amounts can vary and timing of replenishment is not always consistent. For this reason we do not recommend the use of ATM check/debit cards.

What happens if my FasTrak account has a negative balance?

An account with a negative balance is considered "invalid". Any transaction recorded on a negative account is a violation of the requirement to pay the established toll. Violations could result in your being liable for costly penalties and fees as specified in the California Vehicle Code Section 40250. Negative accounts will be closed after 90 days and toll tag deposits will be forfeited. To bring your account to a positive balance, you can make an immediate payment online using a credit card. To do so, sign in to your account and select Increase My Balance. Choose how much you want to add and provide your credit card information. You can save the credit card to your account for future use or chose to use it just the one time.

Why is providing the Customer Service Center my license plate number(s) important?

Should your toll tag not read as you drive through the toll plaza, a photo of your license plate will be taken. The toll amount will then be deducted from your account by matching the license plate information in the photo with the license plate information on file with FasTrak. If there is no match, a violation notice or invoice (Golden Gate Bridge only) will be sent to the registered owner of the vehicle in the photo. As such, your vehicle information should be kept current with FasTrak in order to prevent violation notices and invoices (Golden Gate Bridge only) from being sent to you. You will be responsible for tolls charged to your account based on the identification of your license plate number, unless you notify us of changes to your license plate number.

How do I change my primary payment method from Credit Card to cash or check?

A refundable toll tag deposit is required for all accounts that use cash or checks as their primary payment method. Please contact the Customer Service Center for specific instructions on how to convert to a cash or check based account. You can also follow the steps below:

  • Download an Account Update Form
  • Complete and sign the Account Update Form
  • Send the following to the FasTrak Customer Service Center: A check (made payable to: "BATA") for the refundable toll tag deposit which is equal to $20 for each toll tag on your account.
  • Completed and signed Account Update Form
How can I replenish my account with cash?

A network of cash payment locations is available where you can conveniently replenish your FasTrak account with cash - no credit card is required. These cash payment services can be found at participating authorized merchants, including gas stations, convenience stores, or check cashing stores. Find cash payment locations.

NOTE: Authorized merchants may collect a separate convenience fee for account replenishments.
Will my FasTrak account remain active if I am an infrequent or seasonal user?

Your account will remain active, providing you have some activity on your account during a period of 3 years. If there is no activity on your account for a period of 3 years or more, you will be notified by mail that your account will be automatically closed and instructions will be provided on how to return your toll tag(s) for proper credit. After 30 days, your account will be closed and any remaining balance will be refunded to you.

Can I use FasTrak anonymously?

Yes. FasTrak is dedicated to preserving and protecting customers' privacy. Customers who wish to take advantage of the speed and convenience of FasTrak may do so with complete anonymity.

In order to open an anonymous FasTrak account, you must visit the FasTrak Customer Service Center in person. You can open your account with cash, money order, or cashier's check. A Customer Service Representative will be able to open your account without requiring customer name, address or vehicle information. (If you try to open an account online, your name, address and vehicle information will be required.)

After you have opened your account, you are responsible for depositing prepaid tolls into your FasTrak account whenever the "Low Bal" or "Account Low" message appears on the Driver Feedback Display located at bridge toll booths.

You can replenish your account with cash, money order or cashier's check in person or by mail. Please do not send cash in the mail. Print your toll tag number or account number on the money order or cashier's check and the amount will be added to your prepaid balance.

All account management for anonymous accounts must be conducted in person at the FasTrak Customer Service Center, including checking your account balance, ordering additional toll tags or closing your account.

How can I close my account?

You can request the closure of your account by completing an Account Closure Form and submitting it to the Customer Service Center or by logging into your account online, navigating to the Account Settings tab, and selecting Close Account. To be refunded the toll tag security deposit, you must return your toll tags within 10 business days of the request to close your account. If you are returning the toll tags by mail, we recommend using certified or registered mail to track the delivery of your toll tags.

What are the penalties and late fees for a Notice of Toll Evasion?

It is a violation of the toll evasion statutes under California Vehicle Code Section 23302 et seq. and Streets and Highways Code Section 30843 if you fail to pay the established bridge toll. Pursuant to California Vehicle Code Section 40250 et seq., toll evasion violations shall be enforced by the issuance of notices of toll evasion, delinquent toll evasion and the imposition of civil penalties. The following is a schedule of toll evasion penalties:

First Notice Issued

Toll plus $25 penalty

Second Notice Issued

Toll plus $70 ($25 penalty plus $45 late fee).

If toll is paid within 15 days, penalty is reduced to $25

How do I pay my violation penalty?

A violation notice will be mailed to the vehicle's registered owner. Payment can be made online at www.bayareafastrak.org or over the phone using a credit card, by mailing a check or money order to Bay Area FasTrak, or with cash at one of hundreds of local cash payment locations. The walk in counter at the Customer Service Center takes all forms of payment as well.

I am not a FasTrak account holder and I used the FasTrak toll lane without paying the toll. Will I receive a violation notice?

Yes. When you pass through a bridge toll lane without paying the toll or travel in the I-580 express lanes without a valid FasTrak tag, an image of your license plate is captured. If traveling on the Golden Gate Bridge, an invoice will be mailed to the vehicle's registered owner. For all other toll bridges, a violation notice is sent to the vehicle's registered owner within 21 days of the toll violation at the address on file with the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV), pursuant to the Streets and Highways Code Section 27174.1.

The first notice requests payment for the toll amount and an additional $25 penalty. If you fail to respond to the instructions on the first notice, a second notice will be sent for the toll amount plus a $70 penalty ($25 penalty plus $45 late penalty). Failure to respond to the second notice will result in additional penalties and fees and referral of the amount due to a collections agency and/or the withholding of your vehicle registration by the DMV.

You can resolve your violation online by paying the balance due using a credit card or you can submit a dispute. To pay your violation by check, please follow the instructions described on the violation notice. To pay your violation with cash, visit one of our cash payment locations or the walk in counter at the Customer Service Center during normal hours of operation.

I am not a FasTrak account holder. Why do I receive an invoice when I cross the Golden Gate Bridge without stopping, but a toll violation notice when I cross any of the other Bay Area toll bridges without stopping?

The Golden Gate Bridge converted to All Electronic Tolling (AET) and thus offers license plate tolling, a system that takes a picture of your license plate and mails you an invoice for the toll amount. The other Bay Area toll bridges do not offer license plate tolling. Therefore, if you do not have a FasTrak account, you must stop at the toll plaza and pay your tolls in cash. The best way to avoid violations is to sign up for a FasTrak account. FasTrak users also receive discounts on Golden Gate Bridge tolls.

I am a FasTrak account holder, but I received a toll violation notice. What should I do?

If you opened your FasTrak account in the Bay Area and received a violation notice, you can resolve it either online by going to Violations, or by mail by providing your FasTrak account number or toll tag number on the notice and submitting it to the address indicated on the notice. You should also update your account information to make sure all your vehicle information is registered correctly. Your toll amount will be charged to your account, and any penalties may be waived.

If you opened your FasTrak account at a toll facility in Southern California (e.g., 91 Express Lanes, San Joaquin Hills, Foothill, and Eastern Toll Roads, Interstate 15, or South Bay Expressway) and received a violation notice from the Bay Area FasTrak Customer Service Center, you have 10 days from the date of the violation notice to contact the toll facility where you opened your account and provide your vehicle license plate number. After you have done so, the toll amount you owe will be automatically charged to your Southern California FasTrak account.

I have a FasTrak toll tag, but I still received a violation notice in the mail. Why did this happen?

There are several reasons that could explain why you received a violation.

  • The battery in your FasTrak toll tag may not be working. If you don't hear a beep or see the light blink when the tag is read, you should contact the Customer Service Center to get your tag replaced. A Customer Service Representative may be able to waive the violation penalty as a first time courtesy.
  • The license plate of your vehicle has not been listed in your account. Add the vehicle license plate and backdate the start date to ensure proper tolling. This will also automatically remove the violation penalty.
  • Your FasTrak account balance may be negative. This may be due to the credit card on file having expired or the need to add funds to your cash or check based account. A Customer Service Representative can assist you with adding funds to your account and may be able to waive the violation penalty.
I qualify as a carpool on the I-580 or I-680 Contra Costa express lanes. Why did I receive a violation notice for my carpool trip?

In order for carpools and other eligible vehicles to travel in the I-580 and I-680 Contra Costa express lanes toll-free, a FasTrak Flex tag set in the proper position (2 or 3+) and associated with a valid Fastrak account is required. You can order a FasTrak Flex tag online via the account enrollment process by clicking here. To find a retail location near you to pick up a FasTrak Flex toll tag, visit the Where to Buy page. We recommend that you call ahead to ensure that FasTrak Flex toll tags are in stock.

Is there anything I can do to avoid getting a violation notice if I did not pay the toll?

No. When a violation occurs, a violation payment notice is sent to the vehicle's registered owner using an automated process. The toll collectors at the toll bridges are unable to accept payment for the violation tolls because it is not possible for them to match the payment with the violation that is being processed.

I received a letter from a collections agency (Law Enforcement Systems, Inc) regarding outstanding violations. I have a dispute or question about it. Who can I contact?

If you have a dispute or question about a letter you received from Law Enforcement Systems regarding outstanding violations, the FasTrak Customer Service Center is unable to assist you. Since your case was turned over to the collection agent, you will need to contact them to discuss your case further.

Law Enforcement Systems can be reached by calling (866) 424-9136 between 9:00 am and 5:00 pm EST. If you are calling after hours, you can leave a voicemail message, and an agent will return your call during normal business hours. Also, you can contact them by mail or fax at:

  • Law Enforcement Systems, Inc.
  • P.O. Box 1348
  • Long Island City, NY 11101
  • Fax: (718) 482-8930
How is toll collection in express lanes enforced?

CHP currently enforces toll evasion and HOV occupancy on HOV lanes and express lanes. In the I-580 express lanes, and planned for other express lanes in the future, toll system cameras will capture images of vehicle license plates. If a valid FasTrak toll tag is not detected, an image of the vehicle license plate will be used to send a violation notice to the vehicle’s registered owner through the mail. The notice will include the toll amount plus a penalty for using the express lane without a valid FasTrak toll tag.

What happens if I use an express lane as a solo driver and without a FasTrak toll tag?

You will be in violation of the California Vehicle Code, and be subject to a citation and a fine if caught by the CHP.

In the I-580 and I-680 Contra Costa express lanes, and planned for other express lanes in the future, toll system cameras will capture images of vehicle license plates. If a valid FasTrak toll tag is not detected, an image of the vehicle license plate will be used to send a violation notice to the vehicle's registered owner through the mail. The notice will include the toll amount plus a penalty for using the express lane without a valid FasTrak toll tag.

How much is the violation penalty for using an express lane without a valid FasTrak toll tag?

The first penalty for toll evasion is $25. If payment is not received by the due date, an additional $45 delinquent penalty is added. Additional penalties, including holds on the vehicle’s registration, third party collections, and garnishment of state tax refunds may be applicable. In addition, HOV violation penalties may apply.

What happens if a FasTrak Flex toll tag is switch to the 2 or 3+ position, but there is only one person in the vehicle?

CHP enforce HOV occupancy on express lanes. The FasTrak Flex toll tag will show CHP the vehicles that have declared themselves as eligible for toll-free travel by switching the tag to a toll-free setting. When a FasTrak Flex toll tag is set in the 2 or 3+ position, CHP is alerted that a vehicle is using the express lane toll-free and which toll exemption is being declared. CHP will visually confirm that these vehicles qualify for toll-free status; if not, CHP may pull the vehicle over. A carpool citation in excess of $400 may be issued to the driver.

What are Pass24®, eToll®, TollPass®, and PlatePass®?

These are all electronic toll payment systems which enable certain rental car customers to use the FasTrak lanes on the Bay Area toll bridges. They allow you to drive non-stop through the toll plaza in any lane with a FasTrak sign. Upon renting a vehicle from a participating rental car agency, these individual services charge tolls plus a service fee as agreed upon in your rental agreement. Not all rental car agencies participate in these programs.

Note: You may not use carpool lanes unless you have the required number of occupants.

For a list of participating rental car agencies and for more information about Pass24®, go to www.rentatoll.com or call (877) 509-9506.

For a list of participating rental car agencies and for more information about either eToll® or TollPass®, go to www.htallc.com or call (800) 482-0159.

For a list of participating rental car agencies and for more information about PlatePass®, go to www.platepass.com or call (877) 411-4300.

How do these tolling programs work?

If you rent a vehicle at one of the participating rental car agencies under the any one of these programs, and you signed up, you simply drive through the FasTrak lane without stopping and your tolls will be collected electronically. The rental agency will also charge their service fees, as agreed upon in your rental agreement.

Note: You cannot use these programs to pay tolls in the Bay Area Express Lanes. To pay your tolls in the Express Lanes, you must have a FasTrak toll tag in your rental vehicle.

If I have a FasTrak account, can I use my toll tag in a rental car that is under one of these rental car tolling programs?

Yes. You can use your FasTrak toll tag in a rental car and the program will not be activated. If the toll tag is not mounted properly on the windshield of the rental car, the toll tag may not be read by the electronic toll collections system when you pass through the toll lane. If this occurs, you will need to contact the appropriate program to be charged for the tolls only through the program you signed up for and have any penalties and fees waived.

What if I did not sign up for the Pass24®, eToll®, TollPass®, or PlatePass® Program and accidently drove my rental car through a FasTrak lane?

If you did not sign up for any of these programs upon renting your vehicle, you will be responsible for a toll invoice (Golden Gate Bridge only) or a violation notice which will include the tolls plus penalties and fees. An invoice (Golden Gate Bridge only) or toll violation notice (all other Bay Area toll bridges) will be sent to you to the address on file with the rental car agency. If the Golden Gate Bridge invoice is not paid by the due date, it will escalate to a violation notice. Violation penalties and fees are listed below.

I have a hybrid vehicle with the YELLOW Clean Air Stickers. Can I drive in the designated HOV/carpool-only lane even if I am driving by myself?

No. Effective July 1, 2011, the YELLOW Clean Air Stickers issued by the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) have expired. You are no longer able to drive in a High Occupancy Vehicle (HOV) or carpool lane (on the toll bridges or the Express Lanes) unless you meet the minimum passenger requirements for carpools. Drivers caught using an HOV lane, without the required number of passengers, may be cited by law enforcement.

I have a qualifying clean air vehicle with proper Clean Air Decals. Can I drive in the designated HOV/carpool-only lane even if I am driving across the bridge by myself?

State-Owned Toll Bridges

Yes. Qualified single-occupancy clean air vehicles are permitted to use dedicated HOV/carpool lanes in the Bay Area during designated carpool hours, if these vehicles are displaying the distinctive WHITE or GREEN decals issued by the DMV. Vehicles that meet the requirements for the WHITE decals are Inherently Low Emission Vehicles (ILEVs) that are typically certified pure zero emission vehicles (PZEV) (100% battery electric and hydrogen fuel cell) and compressed natural gas (CNG) vehicles. Vehicles that meet the requirements for the GREEN decals generally meet the enhanced Advanced Technology Partial Zero Emission Vehicle (AT PZEV) requirements, which include plug-in hybrid (PHEV) and hydrogen internal combustion engine (hydrogen ICE) vehicles. The expiration date for the WHITE or GREEN decals is January 1, 2019. As with all other carpool vehicles, single-occupancy clean air vehicles must also pay tolls when driving across the Bay Area toll bridges in an HOV/carpool lane.

Golden Gate Bridge

The Golden Gate Bridge does not have dedicated HOV roadway lanes. However, there is a specific lane(s) dedicated for carpool use during carpool hours. Only vehicles that bear a DMV-issued WHITE Clean Air Vehicle decal are eligible for the $5.00 discounted toll rate for as long as California Vehicle Code Sections 5205.5 and 21655.9 remain in effect. The expiration date for the WHITE decals is January 1, 2019.

Vehicles bearing the GREEN Clean Air Vehicle are NOT eligible for the reduced toll. You are not able to drive in a High Occupancy Vehicle (HOV) or carpool lane unless you meet the minimum passenger requirements for carpools. Drivers caught using an HOV lane, without the required number of passengers, may be cited by law enforcement.

Express Lanes

Yes. Qualified single-occupancy clean air vehicles are permitted to use dedicated HOV/carpool lanes in the Bay Area during designated carpool hours, if these vehicles are displaying the distinctive WHITE or GREEN decals issued by the DMV.

Please Note: In the I-580 Express Lanes, a FasTrak Flex tag set in the 3+ position is required to travel toll-free.

If I am driving alone in a qualifying clean air vehicle across a toll bridge in a designated carpool-only lane, how do I pay my tolls?

If you are driving on a bridge with a designated carpool-only lane, you need FasTrak to pay your tolls. Most Bay Area toll bridges have at least one designated carpool-only lane.

I am in a qualifying clean air vehicle and I have the required number of occupants to qualify as a carpool vehicle. Do I still have to pay tolls when driving across a toll bridge?

Yes. Even if you have the required number of occupants in your clean air vehicle to qualify as a carpool vehicle (i.e., either 2 or 3, depending on the carpool policies of the bridge you are crossing), you must still pay the toll. However, like all other high-occupancy carpool vehicles, you qualify for a discounted carpool toll rate of $2.50 on the state-owned toll bridges and $5.00 on the Golden Gate Bridge.

What is an externally-mounted (or exterior) toll tag?

An externally-mounted (or exterior) toll tag is designed to be screw-mounted on the front bumper, where the license plate would normal be located. It is installed using special tools and tamper-resistant screws to prevent loss or theft. For more information, click here.

Specific vehicle models may require an externally-mounted toll tag.

What are the advantages of using FasTrak for my business?

Your drivers don't need to have cash on hand; they don't have to stop at the toll booth - they only need to slow down; and they will be able to travel across the toll bridges faster. In addition, all their bridge crossings and toll payments are tracked by FasTrak and conveniently summarized on either a monthly or quarterly statement. This information is also available online anytime.

Is there a charge for the toll tags?

There is no charge for the toll tag and no service charge to open and maintain a FasTrak account. To authorize automatic replenishments, establish an account using a credit card, which will require an initial prepaid balance of $25 per toll tag, plus a $20 per toll tag deposit for any toll tags over three (3). To establish an account using cash or checks as the primary payment method, an initial prepaid balance of $50 per toll tag, plus a $20 per toll tag deposit, is due at the time the account is opened.

Can I be billed monthly?

No. FasTrak does not send out monthly bills/invoices. FasTrak is a prepaid toll collection system by which all toll usage is paid in advance.

Do I need to be bonded for FasTrak?

No.

Do my drivers still need to stop in the toll lanes?

No, but they do need to slow to the posted speed limit for safety reasons and to allow the toll tag to be read.

Are there specific lanes my drivers must use?

All toll booths on all eight toll bridges in the Bay Area accept FasTrak. All of the seven state-owned toll bridges have at least one FasTrak-only lane in operation. Cash is no longer accepted at the Golden Gate Bridge toll plaza, but all lanes accept FasTrak.

Note: Oversized vehicles must use specific lanes designated for oversized vehicles only per the California Vehicle Code.

Do I need to have a toll tag for each vehicle in my fleet?

All vehicles using FasTrak as a form of toll payment must have a toll tag mounted properly. It is recommended that each vehicle traveling across any Bay Area bridge on a regular basis be equipped with its own toll tag. However, since internal toll tags are mounted using only Velcro strips, they can be moved from vehicle to vehicle to better accommodate the vehicles in your fleet that only travel across toll bridges occasionally.
